Default If I sell Guild Wars Factions...

Will the lucky buyer be able to play the game using the same CD code?

Or will they need my user ID and password? Only, I've forgotten my password and dont have the game installed anymore and cannot try a few of my usual ones out.

Thanks.

Oh, and Hi by the way. This isn't a thread to insult the game by saying I want to sell it. I thought the game was v. good. Just dont have the time anymore.

I would suggest maybe checking this topic in The Riverside Inn. This should give you a fairly good answer. Also take a look at page 2 about mid way down. Or the cliff notes version. All signs point to no.

I think that this quote;
"You may not sell or auction any Guild Wars accounts, characters, items, coin or copyrighted material, nor may you assist others in doing so."
as discussed in several threads across these boards about sums it up nicely,
coming directly from the EULA for GuildWars.

I wonder how Anet will monitor account selling? They really can't tell if it has different owner unless they dig different ISP and maybe country code too from IP-address. Then again the owner might have moved to different country so it is a bit risky to just assume. Maybe more like a morale issue or big chance of scam which would avoid people selling their accounts.

You'd be a fool to purchase a used account* though as the original owner could reclaim it from you. Anet will side with the original owner.

* I'd add the exception of "unless it is from a trusted source - brother, friend, etc.

It's funny that they don't allow you to sell it (makes perfect sense to me, copyright and all) yet there's a function on the log-in screen that allows you to change E-Mail and such, well I guess what they're saying is, you can give your account away or something...

Either way, selling your account is prohibited by their copyright terms, and since you (the user) clicked "yes, I agree" to their terms, then you can't sell it

Sucks that you don't have time for GW though. You might as well keep it since there's no monthly fees.

On a side note, can one GIVE the used game away? Lets say I had a little brother, which I don't, and after a year of playing and becoming bored can I givethe game to him. Or then to take it to the next step, can I send it to a friend in another state. Or can I use it for barter, for comic books or dragon figurines or what-not? No one is making or losing money on any of these, so is the original person or recieving persons violating the EULA?

people do have legitamate reasons to change email address and password. In fact, I changed mine two weeks ago for security reasons.

While technically, it is probably against the EULA, if you gave it to someone you know, such as a brother/friend, they would have no idea that you did anything. As long as you don't advertise in game, on a forum, or on EBAY they wont know who has that account or that it traded hands.

thats exactly true, just as long as you're not making money off of something that Anet had worked for.

The reason Anet doesn't want people trading/selling/giving away their games is a matter of security. If you got rid of your account, then decided a few months later you wanted to play again, an email to support can get you the account back, and the person you gave it to would be out of luck. So better to stop the potential problems before they start. And, of course, they make the money from selling them the account.

I would imagine if you contacted NCsoft and asked them to delete your account and all information and ask them if you can sell the product as all jurisdictions have consumer protection laws. They may allow it I don't see why not especially if you aren't happy with product and don't forget you just didn't pay for a game you paid shipping and handling as well as taxes on the product. This is really no different than some other RTS games that are on your own HDD.I bought used games before and theres nothing wrong with that.

Eula just really means while you own it and that you won't sell it while still haveing an account. When your account is deleted your are not bound to the EuLa.This means you ended your contract in sense.

^ as usualy this doesn't apply

There's no laws that gives someone the right to return software that has been used already.

I just think that it is weird how you can't sell your account/game. I mean other games, there are huge markets for used games. What if you want to stop playing Guild Wars and you purchased the original plus 2 expansions? That is already $150 down the drain that you cannot get back because you can't sell your account. ANet already made their money didn't they?

For non-online games, once you sell the software to someone else, you no longer have any way to reclaim it. It's gone. But with GW, you can sell your account, then report it stolen, and Anet will yank it back from the person who bought it. The rule about not selling accounts is there to keep this type of behavior down.

I contacted support on just this question when I was having problems getting the game to run when I initially installed it and wasn't able to play it. Despite never even successfully starting the game up, they advised that according to the EULA which you accept during installation, you can not sell, trade or give the game to any other party.

Theoretically I guess you still could give it to someone else despite the restriction, however you would have to give the new owner your log on information as well as the game, and unless they posed as you, they would not be able to get any support if they had a problem.
